Car Accident

We had another good day in church. Thankful for Sunday.
Tim Roecker gave the morning message and David Obergfel had the afternoon message. Tim read in 2 Chronicles, of Solomon getting all the supplies to build the temple which is exactly where I am in my reading at home. Mark and I have been contemplating building another barn and of course my first thought is OK Lord what are you trying to tell me? Am I suppose to be like David and just work on providing the supplies for a son to build the barn or maybe the barn is suppose to be BIG.
We had a quiet afternoon, all the kids were busy today. Rhoda and Lee made it back from Hawaii this evening so we will be losing Ruby tomorrow.
We were just getting ready for bed around 10:00 pm when we heard a big BANG then another and another then dead silence. At first we thought it might be a truck and trailer hitting something on the road but the dead silence was concerning. We each got a flashlight and started hiking down the drive believing someone had hit the mailboxes again but there was no sign of any crash there. The flashlights hardly seemed to be making a dent in the darkness. By the time we got to the bottom of the drive the fog and blackness was eerie and just before we reached Glasford road I saw a red tail light down by the creek. Mark and I started hiking down while dialing 911 and kept them on the line as we reached the crash site. There was a lady inside not moving at all but she became conscious as we were speaking to her. She was very disoriented and not moving much. We didn't see any wounds until she turned her face towards us which revealed a big gash in her forehead. Mark walked up to the road with the flashlight to let the ambulance know where to stop and I stayed with the lady trying to keep her calm. She was able to tell me her name but kept trying to climb out of the car which was not a good idea. First to arrive were the police with a fireman right behind him. She for sure needed help.

It didn't take long for the ambulance, more police cars and a couple fire trucks to arrive. They needed a lot of help to get her out of the ditch and up to the road. The hill was slippery since this big thaw and those carrying the stretcher were finding it hard to keep their footing on the slope. In the picture below they have just carried her up on a stretcher, laid her down on the road and were working on her.

The last picture was as we were walking back up our hill of the lights through the foggy woods. The car she was driving had to have been airborne for quite a while. She must have been going a good rate of speed to have flown so far into the woods. She took out the hidden entrance sign first, crossed our driveway probably with a big bounce and ended up down by the creek. 

We were both thankful that she was alive. Her windows had been shattered but the glass had not fallen out so we didn't know what we were going to find when we opened the car door. Then to see a body laying across the seat not moving made our hearts skip a beat. When her hand moved the relief was enough to make our knees go weak. The car is totaled.
UPDATE Jan 22nd DAYLIGHT:
After the walk this morning I drove the golf cart down to check out the accident site. The car came to rest against that tree with the bark torn off, the front of the car is left in this picture. There were lots of car parts scattered for well over 200 feet. All that dark debris is the underside of the front of the car. It is just a miracle that the tree stopped the car. That tree is right on the edge of the ravine.  It is a steep 15 feet almost straight down to the creek and if the tree hadn't stopped and held the car it would have flipped upside down landing in the creek. I don't know if the driver would have been able to survive that.

 This tree more than likely saved the driver's life. 

 The picture below was taken from Glasford road, the skid marks off to the right of the picture was where the car hit before bouncing and coming to rest against the tree. The 2 skid marks in front of the tree was where the tow truck was able to drag the car away. 

 The picture below shows the flattened sign post. The rest of the hidden entrance sign actually ended up inside the car. Where my golf cart is, is our driveway. The driver hit the sign and lost all kinds of car parts, the passenger side door must have swung open at that point as the remains of what was inside her cooler which was in the front passenger side were scattered along the hillside. Some how she missed our address signs, hit about where the golf cart is located and went airborne at that point. 

Checking over the damage in the daylight I'm thankful the driver survived!
