Pregnant or Not

We didn't actually have rain today more of a misting that kept coming for hours. We walked in it, worked in it, played in it and moved horses in and out in the mist. Karin's vaulters arrived at 10:00 am but because of the constant misting vaulting was held in the indoor arena. Ribbon's filly was so funny. She was curious about the warm-up exercises and lined right up with the vaulters.

She had to be reminded that vaulting was for kids.

 She went over to meet Emily's dog Bernie and allowed him to lick her face.

 After a while she got bored watching the practice so made herself comfortable and just laid down to watch. She didn't even bother to get up when the kids came over to pet her.

 She was content to just bask in their attention and loved getting her back scratched. She is the most friendly laid back filly on the farm so far.

Dr. Hoerr arrived during the practice to ultrasound mares. We started with Jenni Moser's mare Isabella. Isabella has been showing but we wanted to know the best day to cover her. She had a 38 mm follicle so best guess would be to cover her on Friday or Saturday. Shannon Pope's mare was next. She had a 43 mm follicle so is a bit closer but had quite a bit of free fluid floating around which is not good. Dr. Hoerr talked to Shannon and decided to culture the fluid then infused her an antibiotic and gave her a shot to help her expel the fluid.
Sheena was the next mare sonagrammed.

She is pregnant and could be sent out to Middle Grove except she is nursing her big colt by Valiant and lost weight out there. She needs more calories when nursing and will need to stay here to be grained every day. She was bred back to Valiant and is due May 13th, 2016. The next mare in the line-up was Indy. Indy was confirmed in foal by Evan and is due May 10th, 2016.

Emma was next. Emma wasn't very well behaved for Dr. Hoerr, he was only able to look around for a minute or so before she exploded forward but Dr. Hoerr did not find an embryo. She is not in season and is not cycling so we will have to watch her. She will need to be kept in the field next to a stallion for teasing unless she did get pregnant and just hiding it. It is weird that she isn't cycling as we know she did cycle, accepted Evan and was covered May 23rd and 25th. The question with Emma is: is she or isn't she, only time will tell. Ribbon was another mystery. During her ultrasound Dr. Hoerr found what looked like a cluster of cysts that may or may not have an embryo next to it. So her ultrasound was inconclusive...is she or isn't she. again time will tell. She is not in season and was covered 19 days ago so should be in or coming in if she is not pregnant.
Next up was Jury. Jury is in, had a follicle of 45 so I called the owner of Glorioso to order semen while Dr. Hoerr called Dr. Ragon to make sure the semen could be collected and shipped out tomorrow morning. Emily will be driving Jury to Dr. Hoerr's tomorrow morning and leaving her there for the insemination and follow up ultrasounds.
There wasn't much left of the afternoon by the time Dr. Hoerr left. Mom shared some of her ham and bean soup for our supper then Diane picked us up for church. Fred Witzig had the service and oh my did we learn a lot. He is a dynamic and entertaining speaker.
