An Inch of Rain

Storms were predicted overnight but when we awoke there wasn't a drop on the ground. I was disappointed as the fields are dryer than they should be for this time of year. By the time I headed up to the barn though a soft gentle rain was falling. Sangria and Sheena were let out as it was not a cold rain and their stalls were cleaned. Whisper had to be left inside, there is no free paddock. Karin arrived shortly after breakfast stopping at the house first. By the time we were ready to head out that soft gentle rain had turned into a cold downpour. We were drenched by the time Karin brought Oksana and I brought Sangria and Sheena in. All three mares were glad to come inside. Just as Karin started working Oksana the rain was pounding on the metal roof of the arena so hard we could not hear each other even by shouting. Oksana was a little nervous but handled it well.

Karin finished Oksana up by asking her to bow and then lay down. Oksana is allowed to stay down as long as she wants and she did stay down for a few minutes even though the arena was so noisy. Oksana was put in a stall and given her grain while Piper was brought inside.
We don't plan on keeping Piper, she will be for sale as soon as she is confirmed in foal so Karin does not do any trick training with her but does expect her to lead nicely, stand for tacking and mounting and be respectful such as moving away when asked and never ever turning her rear end toward the handler.

The rain had not let up by the time we were finished with these 2 mares so just skipped Serenity. The stalled horses were loaded up with hay and water before heading down to the house. Later this afternoon after we had an inch of rain in our rain gauge the rain stopped. Mark went out to chop weeds while I went out to move a couple round bales and flip another to use for the stalled horses.
Mom and Joan were going to the Midwest Gospel Sing tonight. We always enjoy that but had already promised to watch Braelyn, Taegan and Kensly. Well to our surprise and gratitude this was live streamed by computer right into our house. Mark and I enjoyed listening to the groups. Once the girls were picked up it was back to the barn for me to take care of the stalled mares. Storms are predicted again tonight so Whisper was left inside again. The stalls were cleaned for the night, water buckets filled and the mares fed.
