She's HERE!

After coming down to the house discouraged. I made a pot of coffee then sat down to write about the night. Karin called at 6:15 am to exclaim "we have a baby!" So we all missed another birth, crazy after staying up all night watching the monitor she waits until the morning feeding is done then delivers. She had just been born but Indy was doing an excellent job of cleaning her off. This is an Evan filly. This filly was determined to get up quickly and by 6:22 am stood for the first time.
Of course she crashed right back down again and had to just lay there for a few minutes before trying again.
While the baby was trying to stand for the second time, Indy started having contractions and delivered the placenta. It was checked over and we are pleased to announce it is intact, no rips or tears that could be left inside the uterus to rot.
The only problem was this is Indy's first foal and each time the baby would bump the udder Indy would squeal and try to kick. It took both Karin and I over an hour to convince Indy this MUST be done, that filly WILL nurse.
Emily's cat who is now the reigning queen of the barn watched everything from up on top of the straw bales.
The snow is coming down thick but with the new heater the barn is plenty warm enough for the filly.
Mark drove mom's car with mom to early morning Bible study. I'll leave here in time for morning church as Indy is now accepting the filly fine and the filly is nursing well.  SO SO relieved.
