Burr Party

We had another good day at Berean. Emily was put in charge of the copier and kept it running pretty much the entire time we were working. She went through an entire box of paper. Diane was in charge of keeping the volunteers all busy while I worked on the computer. Lisa Waibel brought 2 of her boys who worked on putting the labels on the Bibles, Joyce Waibel enjoyed working with her grandsons, Shirley Triplett and Eva Jean opened the mail,  Kathy Obergfel and MaryJane Schneider read the letters while Rhoda worked on getting the studies ready for stuffing. Emily separated the lessons while keeping the copier going. Right after lunch was party time. Not just any party, Karin decided it was time to move the horses off the old Middle Grove pasture onto the new Middle Grove pasture but first we needed to remove cockle burrs from 36 horses. This would be an overwhelming job for one or 2 people so she held a Burr Party and invited Rhoda, Emily, Sarah, Anni and me.
Below is Rhoda and Emily ready to hike down to the horses to start work loaded down with halters, leadropes, cowboy magic and vegetable oil. Diane gave us the idea to try that and it worked great. I'm going to have to buy a gallon of that. It made the manes and tails slippery so the burrs would just slide off. It worked better than cowboy magic and was much cheaper.
We had almost finished all of the horses when Mike arrived to help move them. Below are a few pictures of the afternoon. Star saw Karin arrive and came right up. Karin taps her on the leg and Star lays down for a treat.

Emily haltered her then started removing the burrs off her mane and tail. Emily worked on Missy next. She was easy as Emily had braided her mane and forelock before we put her out.
Rhoda was working on Soul's colt Ripper, he stands without a halter while she cleans off his tail.

Sangria was next for Rhoda. Sangria loves being fussed over.
Below is Oksana done with her beauty treatment.
Below Emily is cleaning the burrs out of Jewel's mane.
Karin is working on Whitney while Violet looks on.
Below Rhoda is getting the burrs out of Ella's mane while her colt stands around bored.
Below Emily and Mike are working on Sally.
Anni is working on Eliza's tail.
Sarah is working on Lola's mane while her colt comes over to check out what that human is doing to his mom!

Mike had to play a bit with Ripper, Soul's colt.
Ribbon decided to take off running, who knew this mare could get her feet off the ground.
Jewel's filly by Evan came running up
Soul came running down calling for her colt
The herd all spread out grazing
 Heading over to new pastures.
We took 5 horses home, Ayanna, Violet, Star, Missy and Cookie. We made it home with just enough time to get the horses put away then get ready for choir. Ayanna and Violet were stalled, tomorrow the burrs will be removed from them and new pictures taken of Violet. Rhoda took the other 3 to the cabin field. Diane drove to choir, she was also serving lunch after so we all got to stay and help her clean up. Today was a long but very good day.
