Rain, Mud and More Mud

The rain kept coming on and off most of the day. Mark re-attached the gate to the stallion pasture first thing this morning but we won't turn them out until the pasture dries out a bit. Each time we pulled a mare out for teasing it seemed the gentle misting would turn into a downpour. Novella left last night, Lexi was put out in the paddock and Killian put in the paddock next to her to see if she would show, not only did she not show but she screamed at him. Steven arrived to help with the stallions. Holly was covered by Valiant, Lilypony was covered by Evan and Jenis was covered by Killian and then it was time to work. Mike showed up with boards and gates, electric fence charges, fencing supplies and he and Steven started the fixing. The stallion paddock was given a new walk through gate and a middle electric strand.
The pasture fence repaired and electrified. The weanlings and Zalena were moved into the right side. The breeding shed paddock was electrified. A new gate hung on the big shelter to replace the broken one Jenis destroyed.
That paddock was electrified and made safe for Killian. There should be no more stallions escaping any time soon. The gates to the middle paddock were rehung. The 2 mares with foals were teased with Hadassah showing, she will need to be covered tomorrow. Valiant was taken over to the cabin to tease Ribbon.
All the mares came up to the fence but only Paris showed and we don't want to breed her. Ribbon's filly is 10 days old so Ribbon should be in her foal heat but she wouldn't come close enough to check. It could be she was concerned about keeping Valiant away from her filly. Prissy was pulled out and covered by Valiant. He can easily cover 2 mares a day.
The picture below was taken a couple of days ago when the retainage pond was emptied to prepare for this rain.
It will be interesting to see how much it fills up by tomorrow. It hard not to complain about the rain and the ever present mud. The slippery thick mud just makes everything that needs doing so much harder, but I'm so very thankful for everything that did get done today.
