Colic!
Around 7:15am during the morning feeding Jenis was discovered colicking. Colic is life threatening for horses. She was given banamine and taken over to the stall barn where it was all I could do to keep her from violently rolling. Hoerr vet clinic's emergency number was called and Dr. Hoerr arrived around 8:10am. By the time he arrived the banamine had relaxed Jenis enough that he could check her. He found she had an impaction and probably not a twisted gut. Dr. Hoerr stuck a tube down her nose into her stomach and administered a couple gallons of water mixed with Epsom salts. Mom offered to watch her and I was only a half hour late to work. Work was strange, weird things kept happening causing us frustration but somehow Eva Jean and I were still ready for lunch in time. Just that Eva Jean had to take a lot of extra work home with her to make it. Mom's estimated taxes were paid today before leaving to pick up the now repaired trailer. By the time I arrived home at the farm Steven was already there watering the arena. Sue stopped in to watch the training session and tell us her news. Piper is heading to the training on Wednesday! Steven helped with the stallions today. Jenis is now in season and was covered by Raven, Jewel was covered by Evan. Once that was done and marked down he brought both Valiant and Evan in to do some training. Once Steven was satisfied with their work, he took them to Diane's swimming. The boys were play fighting in the water.
Steven and Sue left just about the time Karin arrived to work Clair, Prissy, Bonnie and Cor.
I didn't get to watch her work Bonnie, Spark was picking us up for choir and for some reason I needed a shower. Choir was all new songs, not as enjoyable as singing our favorites but I'm sure with time the new songs will become favorites. That happens each year! We had left overs for the choir lunch but these weren't just any left overs this food was great. Turkey stuffed wraps, fruit, fritos, meringues with ice cream topped with either fruit or hot fudge helped fill everyone up. A good ending for the day after a bad start.
