Trees

Mark bought 6 Norway Spruce this morning, dug the holes and planted them on the North side of the farm house. They are pretty small right now but if they make it grow quickly and tall making a windbreak for the fierce North winds. While he was busy doing that I was playing with Helen. She sure doesn't seem to be blind. She is in an acre pasture with Lily right now and will gallop away from Lily almost the length of the pasture before heading back. She has never run into a fence or a tree. They were taken out to the big field and let loose. The golf cart was parked about 20 feet away where I could sit comfortably and watch and Helen was so curious about it she got up the nerve to come check it out with her nose. Now how she knew it was there, walked right to it then back to mom sure seems like at least some vision. Mike and Diane are at the cottage today so Mark helped get Zalena covered by Raven. Once she was put away I headed over to mom's where she was cleaning carpet when Mark called that the mare from Circle Double D had arrived. This mare has already had 2 Raven babies both colts both sold and now they want another. Steven arrived to work the boys. Below Evan is all tacked up while Valiant is not very patiently waiting his turn.
Evan was really funny this afternoon. Steven had worked him going to the left walk and trot about 15 minutes, turned to the right got a couple of trot circles in when Evan decided he was done and laid down.
We are use to a young horse trying to buck off a rider, shy, rear, sometimes kick but we have never had one lay down. Of course Steven made him get up and got right back on him to finish the right side. We had a good laugh. When it came time to put them away Steven walked them past Jazz, the mare in for breeding. They were very interested in her but she was not interested in them. Hopefully she will come in season soon.
Below is Steven holding Valiant. This boy is going to be HUGE, he is already over 16 hands and won't be three until July.
We ended up taking the boys to the cabin field for the night as a special treat as they were so good under saddle. Steven will put them back in their own paddock tomorrow afternoon. Mark went in to Menards to pick up a few more building supplies. Spark & Rhonda brought over some of their company to see the horses. Ella was brought out for the kids and a few of them had fun riding around on her. We loaded the kids on the golf cart and drove over to the cabin to watch the boys there. They were really having fun showing off.
