Long Trip Home

The drive was going along very smoothly, Ben started driving and drove until 12:30am then I took over. Right at 3:30am with 2 hours of driving left, just past Salem, IL during a huge thunderstorm the car started going thump, thump, thump, dragging and pulling to the left. Once we were pulled over to the side of the road the tires were checked and sure enough the drivers side front was flat as a pancake. Luckily I have AAA Plus or so I thought. The call was made and the promise of help within the hour sounded wonderful as the rain was coming down like cats and dogs with ferocious strikes of lightning and crashing of thunder. A small junky pickup truck pulls up right at 4:30pm and tells us he was sent to help but... he had no tools. He looks things over and says he will be right back which meant another hour and a half. By 6:00am we were back on the road but stopped at the very first exit, to find our one and only spare is now almost flat. We filled it to the suggested 60 psi and took off again. This time we were able to drive about an hour when the car started pulling to the left again. Another gas station that offered air was quickly found and the tire filled back up. We had to do this 3 more times before arriving in Bloomington, IL by 9:30am and now Ben is left with 2 flats both not fixable. I finally arrived back at the farm at 10:30am and am so ready for bed.
Thankfully, Ruth has invited us to dinner tonight.
