Cold Wet Work

Today at the farm Steven showed up to help repack and bandage Jenis' hoof before we started the real work. Chuck dropped off 7 round bales, one was for Ralph and Jamie's horse which we moved in for them and the other 6 were for us. Steven got the skid steer out and stacked them all.

the middle paddock got another alfalfa bale. Ylse was anxiously waiting for Steven to move in the new bale. I love the system we have in place. Once the gate is opened and the feeder sections spread the gate can be left open while another bale is dropped. They clean up just about every scrap.

Steven had to leave, Mike finished installing the new automatic waterer, then he and his grandson Tate were ready to help put up the last few boards on the shelter.

By this time we are cold, wet and muddy and so ready to quit when thousands of birds left the trees and took to the skies. They put on quite a show.

They settled back into the trees and as the show was over it was time to head home to get dinner started. We are having a one pot meal tonight, Fedi's Fantastic Romanian Shepherds stew. It is on the stove now bubbling up, perfuming the entire house with savory smells.
