St. Louis

The morning was cloudy and dark for the first time in weeks. Of course it was too tempting to sleep in so the trip to the farm was a little later than usual. By the time it was reached the only way to get everybody fed was to do it all at a run. By the time we all met up, the jacket was off, the sweatshirt was off and I had to explain, "no, I'm not having a hot flash, just late this morning."
We finished one entire round and were just leaving RACHEL'S when Steven called. He wanted to know what happened to Walker Sally's filly's eye. We didn't know what he was talking about but were almost back to the farm by that time and then we were shocked. She had cut and banged up the area above her left eye pretty badly. It had to have happened between the first and second farm round.
She was going to have to visit Dr. Hoerr along with Ribbon. Steven hooked up his truck to the stock trailer as I had to work today and drove them to the vet clinic where the filly's eye was examined and stitched up. Ribbon was ultrasounded and it was a good thing we decided to do this, she was expecting twins. This is NOT a good thing in a mare, they are not designed to deliver twins and most often either the foals die or the mare dies. Dr. Hoerr pinched off the smaller of the embryos then Steven loaded them back up and left. Once back the 'kids' were moved into the Friesian paddock until the paddock the filly was in can be checked out and made safe. Steven wormed, then loaded up Jewel, Sally, Paris, Autumn and Sophie and headed for Middle Grove. Once there he also wormed Lily, Velvet, Evan, Valiant, Ciera, Knight and Wynne. How thankful we are for his help. Diane made the comment she wishes we could hire him, maybe in a few years we will be ready for a barn manager. :o)
Mark and I left for St. Louis, got lost and ended up in EAST St. Louis. Not a good thing. When we came to a stop sign it was, DON'T STOP! Mark had to pull over and re program the GPS with the correct address and we were here by 4:00PM. We are staying in The Pear Tree Drury Inn. It is VERY nice. We are on the 10th floor and have a very nice view of the Arch. I brought the camera but not the cord so will have to add the pictures later.
We went to the reception and dinner for Trane and it was awful. The appetizers were all weird things like goat cheese on hard tack, other weird cheeses, strange tasting salami's, a cold potato bar and funny looking and tasting desserts. There was an open bar so perhaps they thought everyone would be too drunk to complain about the food. We will be so ready for breakfast in the morning!
