Dr. Pallen got to the farm at 12:40pm and with Steven Marchal's help and Rachel Sauders help we got 17 coggins drawn, sonagramed 3 mares, checked Ribbon (not in foal) Checked Lily's hernia, and drew blood for a progesterone test on Samantha. We had horses tied up in the far paddock, horses in stalls, horses waiting all over and by the time Dr. Pallen got there we just kept throwing horses at her. We were done in just under 3 hours.
Good news is Izadora is in foal. Maybe Mike will let me sell her as a three-in-one package. More good news is that Lily's hernia is actually 3 small hernias all up near her sternum so she should be able to deliver fine. Lily has a lot of scar tissue which is making the big lump under her belly and that will never go down but the hernias are about the size of a quarter and no bowel should be able to slip through. The bad news is Ribbon, she did lose the foal at MiddleGrove. In a way it is a blessing, no foal to worry about during her vaulting performances but sure hurts our bottom line.
We moved Wynne in with the foals, she broke a board and ran to Raven this morning around 7:00am. By the time Steven and I walked Clara and Paris back to the cabin field and filled that water tank, I was cold and ready for home.
One of the best parts of the day was when Dr. Pallen went over to draw Shadow's coggins and asked Rachel if he was a purebred Friesian. We also are having a very tough time figuring out which is Wanda and which is Chloe. Steven kept insisting that Chloe was Wanda and I kept insisting that Wanda had to be Wanda, If I had them standing together, I'm sure Wanda is a little taller AND has more feathers. Wanda and Shadow are just 2 days apart and look so much alike we always have to look under them. Helps that Shadow is a boy or we would have 3 we would be struggling with. We were telling Dr. Pallen the bad thing about not being able to tell the crossbreds with the purebreds is that one of them is worth $8000.00 and the other only $2500.00. We are going to have to microchip and get a scanner. It is a GOOD thing that our foals are ALL quality! Yes?
Later Mark and I headed BACK to the farm and hooked up the new propane tanks and started the furnace then to Sams to buy dog food, rawhide bones, fruit, milk, nuts and berries. The kids called just as we were checking out and invited us to TGIFridays. We had a very good time watching Addyson try a slice of lemon. We were weak from laughing, she just kept putting it back in her mouth, scrunch up her face, shudder then do it all over again. After dinner Mark and I took Rhoda's car with Addyson home while the kids went to Beth's Barn for volleyball. They had 3 teams but sounded like all had a great time. Addyson was such a joy to watch.
